TERPS WIN

The TERPS convincing 15 - 7 win over Virginia sends the
TERPS to the ACC Championship game on Sunday against
Duke. The victory was also significant as it was Virginia's
first conference tournament loss since 2005.

Karri Ellen Johnson got the TERPS on the board at 1:30 in,
followed shortly by a tying VA goal. Next 4, all TERPS, with
Caitlyn McFadden scoring 2, then with 1 each by Laura
Merrifield and Brandi Jones. Virginia picked up a few and
then each team scored once more for a 6 - 5 Terp lead going
to halftime.

The second half was a completely different story with 3
TERPS goals in the first 3 minutes to open up a 9 - 5 lead.
The defense was making Virginia really work for everything
with very timely doubles, great slides, good talk and superb
goaltending by Brittany Dipper. Oh yea, we kept putting the
ball in the net with 2 more TERPS scores - Caits and Laura -
before Virginia made their final goal of the game. The TERPS
finished the game with a 4 goal barrage for the 15 - 7 final.

Before leaving on Friday, one of the TERPS remarked that
"the next time we are in this building, we will be ACC
Champions." The TERPS will play for their 6th ACC title, but
the first for all members of the 2009 squad, on Sunday at 1p.

ACC Tournament

The #1 seeded TERPS will play Virginia on Friday at 4 in
the first ACC semifinal game at Virginia Tech. The TERPS
made final preparations, tuned and tweaked and got on the
TERPs bus for the ride back to Virginia Tech...weren't we
just here?? Actually yes....geez.
The undefeated TERPS will bring goal scoring right to the Hoos. Remember that regular season game AT Virginia - TERPS 17 - 11. Sarah Mollison had 6 goals, Karri Ellen Johnson 4. Who will it be tomorrow for the 3rd ranked offense that sports 7 players with 2o goals!! Defense playing real well, playing together, supporting, stopping. GKs are playing real well.
I want to win everything," coach Cathy Reese said. "Why not? I'm proud of where we are this season. People probably weren't expecting us to be sitting here undefeated right now with a team as young as we have, but they're fighters, they're competitors and we're going to keep going to get where we want to be." The first step is Friday!

TERPS DOMINATE STATE

The #2 TERPS took a 14 - 8 half time lead to a 20-12 victory
over Penn State, Friday, at the ACC/ALC Challenge at Ohio
State. Laura Merrifield had a TERPS career game totalling
8 goals - - 7 in the first half.

The TERPS dominated the opening 10 minutes going ahead
9 - 1. Wow!! Laura Merrifield's career night got underway at
9 seconds with her 1st of 8 goals, followed by her second in
under 1 minute. PSU got one but the TERPS pulled away
scoring the next 7 for a 9-1 lead. Back and forth with PSU
getting 3 before Karri Ellen and Kristy Black added to the
TERPS tally. PSU then put together another 3- 0 run but
Laura hit for her 6th and 7th goal of the half - --TERPS 14,
Penn State 8.

So, Sarah Mollison opens the second half with a goal less then
one minute in. Penn State picked up 2 free position goals until
Spin added to the TERPS count with her goal. And the TERPS
dug in for the last 20 minutes - 4 goals to 2 for PSU - with
Caitlyn McFadden getting 2 of the 4 for the TERPS.

The TERPS are now off to their best start since the 2001
Championship season. Up next - Sunday versus Ohio State at
1pm in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Pix tomorrow.
